Hanover County Organized Retail Crime Stakeholders Forum

Hanover County Commonwealth’s Attorney Mackenzie Babichenko is bringing together leaders from the Mid-Atlantic Organized Retail Crime Alliance, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Police, and Hanover’s retail community for a Retail Crime Stakeholders Forum.
The forum will take place at the Hanover County Complex - The date is yet to be determined. Please complete the registration below to be updated and complete the day/time survey to help determine the best timing.
Retail crime presents challenges that extend beyond the loss of merchandise. Repeat offenders, organized retail crime groups, fraud activity, and theft-related confrontations can affect employee safety, customer confidence, business operations, and the broader Hanover County community.
This forum is designed to strengthen communication among retailers, law enforcement, prosecutors, and private-sector investigators. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss the retail crime issues affecting Hanover County and identify practical ways to improve reporting, intelligence sharing, investigations, case preparation, and prosecution.
Discussion topics are expected to include:
Current retail theft, fraud, and organized retail crime trends
Challenges facing Hanover County retailers
Information retailers should collect and preserve following an incident
Improving communication between retailers and responding deputies
Identifying and investigating repeat offenders and organized groups
Building stronger cases for successful prosecution
Understanding what happens after an arrest
Intelligence-sharing resources available through MAORCA
Opportunities for continued collaboration in Hanover County
The forum will include an open discussion featuring representatives from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, MAORCA, and the retail industry. Attendees will be encouraged to share concerns, identify recurring problems, ask questions, and help shape future public-private collaboration.
Retail owners, store managers, asset protection and loss prevention professionals, investigators, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, and other invited stakeholders are encouraged to attend.
Attendance is free, but advance registration is requested. Space may be limited.
